As some of you may know, I am a freelance editor and writing coach. I also teach creative writing to kids. Right now, I’m fairly low-profile and I’ve only been finding clients through word-of-mouth. This is because I haven’t had the time to invest in marketing and getting my name and my business out there.

But I told myself that once the school year begins I am going to get my business off the ground and really take off!

My muse has come up with one name for the business. Just one. I told her that I need to have some more choices, but she won’t budge. It’s almost as if she went on strike all because I’m not super crazy about what she came up with:

Scribbling Squid Writing Studio.

It’s cute. Maybe too cute. It’s also got a lot of ‘sssssssssssss’ going on. And the squid part. Well, that’s just got everyone I’ve polled scratching their heads–they can’t understand the purpose behind the word squid. (Bonus points for anyone who gets squid.)

But on the favorable side, it’s easy to remember. It’s fairly clever. It’s unique. And the name is related to the nature of the business.

So, I’m split down the middle and I don’t trust my judgment on this one anymore.

I need your advice!

If you like Scribbling Squid Writing Studio, then please let me know. If you don’t, I still want to know (my feelings will not be hurt). And by all means, if anyone has another suggestion for a name, please write it in the comments section.

Some extra details: This will be a business that I run from home, but I plan to eventually operate in a public setting (leasing office space) where I can run workshops and writing classes to kids and adults. I will also have a website where I will publicize kids’ stories, hold writing challenges and contests, advertise community events related to writing and reading. I have my heart set on using ‘Writing Studio’ somewhere in the name of the business.
