I’m a Lazy Daisy

I have been sitting on a couple of awards. It’s not that I dislike the award ceremony; in fact, I love the tradition of exchanging awards among fellow bloggers. But because I take it seriously, I tend to overwhelm myself with all of the details and the rules and tracking where each award has come and gone. I find them more difficult than regular posts.

But I despise feeling lazy and inconsiderate, so I figured I better announce at least one of the awards…

Isn’t it darling? This was a double-shot as two bloggers awarded me with it.  Vicky from Victoria Writes and Amy from Maisymak.

The rules for this award are:

1.) Thank the person who nominated you. Thanks Vicky and Amy!

2.) Tell your readers 7 unusual things about yourself.

3.) Nominate some worthy bloggers.

Okay, I know that I have listed ’7 unusual things about yourself’ in other award ceremonies. I apologize if I am redundant, but there aren’t that many unusual qualities about me. At least, I don’t think there are…

1.) I collect bird feathers

2.) I brush my feet off before I slip into bed (so I don’t get grit and dirt in my bed, of course!)

3.) Brushing my teeth relaxes me

4.) I talk to myself. Not just talk–I have full conversations with myself.

5.) I know all of the US presidents in order, by heart

6.) I have rescued numerous wild animals from my ferocious English setters. (They’re not really ferocious, but they do like to toy with wee bunny wabbits and helpless bats and such.)

7.) I buy my favorite food and hide it so I don’t have to share.

Okay, so here are the bloggers I wish to pass the Daisy Award on to …

  1. Thank you so much! :) I need to do a little catch up awards thanking post sometime soon. Like you, I find it the most difficult of posts to put together, but I do like to acknowledge them and thank people properly! I haven’t actually ever put up any of the award badges on the sidebar of my blog either that I keen meaning to do!

  2. Congratulations on the well-deserved award! :) They can be a handful, though, can’t they? And it’s nice to know I’m not the only one who carries on “solo” conversations. ;) Sometimes I have to stop myself from doing it in public!

    • Apparently, bats can’t fly from the ground up like a bird can. It needs to take off from an elevated position, catch an air current, and then it can fly.

This particular bat was on the ground, at the base of a tree and was trying to climb up the tree when my dog spotted it and knocked it back to the ground.

I rescued the bat, put it on the roof of my garage where it waited until dusk and flew off. :)

  3. I get the feet thing. I wear socks around the house and then change into a clean pair before I get into bed!
Congrats on your award Kate. :)

    • Well, honestly, I skimp on the rules. I think I was supposed to pass the award on to more bloggers…

I’m glad to know there are other food hoarders out there besides me. Sometimes I worry about the habit and what it says about me, but I’m feeling much better now. Thank you.

  4. Congrats, K, and well deserved. I love your 7 unusual things. Ties for favorite are hiding food (done it) and rescuing critters from my ferocious dog (done it). Sorry, we don’t have the teeth brushing thing in common. Making my teeth dirty, a.k.a. eating chocolate, relaxes me. Have a good one =)

    • Hey Nancy,

I figured I’d be in the minority with the teeth-brushing fetish, but I’m pleasantly surprised to discover how many people out there hide their favorite foods!

  5. I love that you’ve memorized the Presidents in order. Awesome feat! Congrats on all your awards…and thanks for saving the ‘widdle bunnie rabbits.’

  6. Thanks so much, Kate! I was wondering why I was getting all those referrals when I hadn’t yet read your post…shame on me (but I guess that means I’m a lazy daisy, too :) ). Lovely award, and I have now learned something about bats, too. My creatures over the years have been known to toy with baby possums :( . Have a great day!

  7. I love your answers…and you are never lazy or inconsiderate! I wipe my feet off before I get into bed too and I would also love to hear those full conversations. My brother still talks to himself all the time and when we were little I loved eavesdropping – he could always kick butt in our arguments b/c he had already had the conversation before!

    • Hey Amy, I should You Tube one of my conversations, that would probably be a funny vid. I love knowing that other people talk to themselves, because sometimes I fear I am a bit crazy. And I think that’s really funny that your brother prepped for sibling arguments!

    • Hey Mayumi, I gotta do it. If I leave it out in the kitchen cupboards, it’s gone before I even get to try it. It’s parly because I will make food last a loooong time. There are countless Halloweens where I still had candy from the year before when it was time to go trick or treating again. I’m not a gobbler. I’m a savorer. :)

  8. Your dogs can catch bats? It sounds like they’re pretty agile. I used to have a cat that would occasionally bring me what I came to call “grisly gifts,” meaning the head of a bird or mouse the cat had decapitated, and I would marvel at how high she must have been able to jump.

    • Hi Chris, well, I’m thinking my dog found this bat as it was trying to climb up a tree (evidently bats can’t fy from the ground like birds can; they need to fly from an elevated position) So, my dog isn’t all that agile, just uber-curious.

Ah yes, I have cats and you’re right–they are fond of leaving us bits and parts of their victims. Heads are a favorite gift to leave us. I love your term, grisly gifts. :)

  9. I have to make sure my feet are clean before bed too, I cannot stand crumbs in the bed!! My husband doesn’t share this feeling though so really it’s just a losing battle.

  10. There I was reading your post and thinking oh, wow, nice award, I would love to have that one, then I saw my website listed. Thank you. :)

Feathers, I can see that as a very nice collection. If you haven’t already, perhaps you could include a feather post with photos. Would love to see them. I love your number 7! I couldn’t do that without feeling guilty somehow. I’d also be worried someone would discover the discarded packaging.

    • You’re very welcome. I have not done a post on feathers, and I have considered it. So yes, I will post about them! Probably not until after NaNo is over though. :)

Getting around the evidence of hidden food can be tricky. But there are ways. Stuffing it into the bins on trash day is a good method. Or just take it to your nearest Dumpster. It might make you feel like a criminal, but it’s worth it. :)

  11. Congratulations! I feel the same way about award posts and may never have the energy or time to do another one again even though they are nice to do. That’s funny about your English setters – mine hasn’t caught a bat or bunny rabbit. The bunnies taunt her though.

    • Hi Sheila, I wonder why it is the award posts require more of us than regular posts? There isn’t as much thinking and analyzing going on. It’s baffling. Setters are funny, in my experience. They’ll go after anything that moves. Yes, if it isn’t a bunny that is taunting them, it is The Red Squirrel.

  12. Congratulations. You’re braver than me. Still figuring out a nice way to catch up with the nominations (from really great fellow bloggers and like you I do like everything it stands for…still struggling with the how of things I guess. Penny :)

    • Hi Penny, well I hope you enjoy this Daisy Award as part of your collection. It is one of my favorites because it’s so pretty. But something about accepting awards and passing them on is tedious. Maybe it’s the fact there are multiple steps involved. It’s not straightforward? I dunno. In any case, good luck with your award post when you get to it! :)

  14. Congrats on the award! These posts are wonderful but I also get caught up in making sure I pick new bloggers and trying to adhere to the rules. Then these post takes up lots of time.:) LOL on #7–I hate sharing my favorite foods too.

  15. Congrats K. on the award, although I wasn’t convinced at the level of strangeness in your quirks. I happen to agree with the grit in bed thing. And as for the food hoarding, my fifteen year old son told me after I found twinkies, cheese-nips and R-Peanut cups in his chest, that he’s making sure he’s stocked up for the coming zombie Apoc.! Nice thought. Makes it less selfish and more frugal right?! I was wondering, have you ever thought of using the feathers to create an art platform or unique piece of sort. It would be rather beautiful if put together right. The first thing that comes to mind, is behind glass arranged nice. But if you went more creative, you could do something along the lines of piecing them together, to form a design, such as a tree, or rainbow, or even a bird. Would be beautiful hung on a wall. Very unique collection!

Give me your thoughts. Or your pizza. I'm not picky.
